The current caravan park is set to be extended into the northern field, with a new access road from Neasham Road and a brand new car park at the front of the Newbus Grange building. The ground floor of the building is to be re-purposed to house office spaces for staff of Maguires Country Parks and also offer a lounge area for visitors. The first and second floor of the building are to be converted into private apartments, with their own entrance.

Proposed Work to Protect Future
The proposal also details how the new works are to protect and preserve the building for future generations, stopping any further damage with necessary alterations. The planning application is submitted on behalf of Darlington-based company Cotterhill Limited, who added: “Our proposed alterations will prevent any further loss or damage to the significant areas of the property and will ensure its preservation for future generations to enjoy.”

Background of Newbus Grange
Previously, the building was known as Cygnet Newbus Grange, providing care for those with learning disabilities and autism. However, the Care Quality Commission found the facility inadequate and deemed it necessary to halt the service in 2019.
